EASY modification of the Carambola!

Noémie Zicat

The Carambola is a pattern to which you can easily make various modifications. I present to you a quick and easy way to add a little original touch to your waist band!

Step 1:

Follow the instructions in the Carambole pattern until the waist band is applied.

2nd step:

Cut a piece according to the chart below (length x width). I chose to put the strips all the same width, but you could vary according to your tastes! (Note that the length is perpendicular to the grain while the width is parallel.)

12M: 6.4 x 6.5cm

18M: 6.6 x 6.5cm

2 years old: 6.9 x 6.5 cm

3 years old: 7.1 x 6.5 cm

4 years old: 7.4 x 6.5 cm

5 years old: 7.6 x 6.5 cm

6 years old: 7.9 x 6.5cm

7 years old: 8.1 x 6.5 cm

8 years old: 8.4 x 6.5 cm

10 years old: 8.6 x 6.5 cm

12 years old: 8.9 x 6.5cm

Step 3:

Place your piece right sides together.

Step 4:

Sew the edge with a seam allowance of 1 cm (3/8 inch).

Step 5:

Turn the piece right side up. Use a safety pin if necessary to return the tube created. Iron the piece along the crease line.

Step 6:

Choose where to place the knot. It is possible to place the piece in the middle, on the left or on the right of the waistband. For my part, I chose to put it 6.35 cm (2.5 inches) from the right edge of the sweater. Pin in place.

Step 7:

Sew the band as indicated in the pattern and continue with the other steps. TADAM!

There are still many variations. You could sew the knot, add lace, etc. Let your imagination run wild! :)

Happy sewing!
