You will need:

- 1/2 m of canvas, quilt cotton, poplin, coated cotton, or other non-stretch fabric for the outside of the plant pot cover

- 1/4 m of canvas, quilt cotton, poplin, coated cotton, or other non-stretch fabric for the inside of the plant pot cover. For a waterproof plant pot cover, we recommend coated cotton!

- 1/2 m of non-woven interfacing

Seam allowances are 1 cm and are included in the pattern.

Step 1: Preparing the pieces

Cut all the necessary fabric pieces according to the dimensions indicated in the pattern. Make sure to follow the grainline for each piece to avoid any distortion of the fabric once the project is finished.

Step 2: Interfacing the pieces

Apply fusible interfacing to the OUTSIDE and OUTSIDE BASE pieces according to the interfacing supplier’s recommendations. The interfacing will reinforce the fabrics and give them more structure. Follow the temperature and pressing time instructions for optimal results.

Step 3: Assembling the body of the plant pot cover (OUTSIDE piece)

Place the edges right sides together of the OUTSIDE piece on the side and sew along the entire length using your sewing machine. Use a straight stitch. Once sewn, press the seams open with an iron to flatten the edges well.

Step 4: Attaching the base to the outer body

Position the OUTSIDE BASE piece on the bottom of the OUTSIDE piece, right sides together, aligning the edges. Secure with plenty of pins or clips to hold the pieces in place. Sew the edges together, maintaining a 1 cm seam allowance.

Step 5: Assembling the lining (INSIDE piece)

Place the edges right sides together of the INSIDE piece on the side and sew to form a tube. Leave an opening of about 8 cm to turn the project right side out later. After sewing, press the seams open with an iron for a better finish.

Step 6: Attaching the base to the lining

Position the INSIDE BASE piece on the bottom of the INSIDE piece, right sides together, and secure with clips or pins. Sew together, maintaining a 1 cm seam allowance.

Step 7: Assembling the outside and inside

Place the INSIDE piece inside the OUTSIDE piece, right sides together. Align the top edges and pin or clip to hold the pieces together. Sew all around the top edge. This seam will join the two parts of your plant pot cover.

Step 8: Turning the project right side out

Turn the entire project right side out through the opening left in the INSIDE lining. Take care to push out the corners and shape the edges using a turning tool or a fabric pencil for sharp corners. Once turned, close the opening by hand with an invisible stitch or by machine.

Step 9: Finishing

Carefully press the entire plant pot cover so the seams and edges are well defined. You can now fold the excess of the OUTSIDE piece and press. Add a ribbon to your project for a little extra punch!

Happy sewing!
