The seam allowances are 1 cm and are included in the pattern.
Step 1: Preparation of the parts
Cut all the necessary fabric pieces according to the dimensions indicated in the pattern. Make sure to follow the grainline for each piece to avoid any distortion of the fabric once the project is finished.
Step 2: Interfacing the pieces
Apply fusible interfacing to the pieces OUTDOOR and OUTDOOR BASE in accordance with the recommendations of the interfacing supplier. The interfacing will help reinforce the fabrics and give them more structure. Follow the temperature and pressing time instructions for optimal results.
Step 3: Assembly of the flowerpot body (OUTER part)
Place the edges face to face of the room OUTDOOR on the side and sew along the entire length using your sewing machine. Use a straight stitch. Once the seam is finished, press the seams open with an iron to flatten the edges well.
Step 4: Assembly of the base with the outer body
Position the part OUTDOOR BASE on the bottom of the piece OUTDOOR, face to face, aligning the edges. Secure with numerous pins or clips to hold the pieces in place. Sew the edges together, making sure to maintain a 1 cm seam allowance.
Step 5: Assembly of the lining (INTERIOR piece)
Place the edges face to face of the room INTERIOR on the side and sew, so as to form a tube. Leave an opening of about 8 cm to be able to turn the work inside out later. After sewing, press the seams open with an iron for a better finish.
Step 6: Assembling the base with the lining
Position the part INTERIOR BASE on the bottom of the part INTERIOR, place against place, and secure with clips or pins. Sew together maintaining a 1 cm seam allowance.
Step 7: Assembly of the exterior and interior
Place the part INTERIOR inside the room OUTDOOR, place against place. Align the top edges (the upper edge) and pin or clip to hold the pieces together. Sew all around the top edge. This seam will join the two parts of your plant pot cover.
Step 8: Return the item
Return the entire work through the opening left in the lining INTERIOR. Be sure to emphasize the corners well and shape the edges using a turning tool or a fabric pencil for sharp angles. Once turned, close the opening by hand with an invisible stitch or by machine.
Step 9: Finishing
Carefully iron the entire plant pot cover so that the seams and edges are well defined. You can now fold the excess of the piece OUTDOOR and iron. Add a ribbon to your project for an extra little punch!
Happy sewing!
